Waste is something we all create. Even if we recycle and compost, these are two very important parts of what makes up our waste stream in Delaware. We offer field trips, virtual programs and outreach programs for all ages.
All programs are free!
Visit one of DSWA’s two environmental education centers to be immersed into the world of waste through interactive exhibits and experiential learning. All programs are 2 hours long and can accommodate up to 60 students.
Visit the Environmental Education Building in New Castle to see the Delaware Recycling Center, the state’s only sorting and processing facility.
Programs include a bus tour of the recycling center (bus provided by visitors).
Classroom lessons teach how to correctly recycle at home.
Interactive exhibits provide experiential learning of landfills, household hazardous waste, composting and natural resources.
A live- action conveyor belt allows students to practice their recycling skills while learning about jobs inside recycling center.
The classroom is available for lunch at the conclusion of the program (lunch provided by visitors).
If you are unable to visit one of our environmental education centers in person we offer programs for your students. All programs include a recycling lesson but can be accompanied by other topics that may fit your curriculum i.e, composting, soils or natural resources. All participants will virtually practice their recycling sorting skills with an up close look at our live action conveyor belt!
Virtual programs are 45 minutes and can accommodate up to 30 students (if using their own devices). Programs can support Zoom and Microsoft Teams.
All programs are FREE!

All programs provide a presentation to clarify the dos and don’ts of using your recycling bin and how all recyclables are managed in Delaware.
Programs run 1-1.5 hours and can be scheduled during the day/evening.
Programs scheduled at one of DSWA’s environmental education centers can accommodate up to 30 adults. Outreach programs can accommodate groups of any size.
